How to Choose

The Three Power Options, Side by Side

Each has tradeoffs. None is universally better. It depends on how you use your cart.

Gas

Gas Engine

Run all day. Refuel and go.

Pros

  • No range anxiety. Fill up and keep going.
  • Lower up-front cost than lithium.
  • Long service life with basic maintenance.

Cons

  • Louder than electric.
  • Fuel costs add up over the years.
  • Some community associations ban gas.

Best For

Long runs, rural property, cabin use, commercial applications.

Flooded Lead-Acid

DC Drive

The classic electric. Proven. Affordable.

Pros

  • Lowest up-front cost.
  • Mature technology. Every tech knows it.
  • Widely available replacement batteries.

Cons

  • Regular watering required.
  • Heavier than lithium.
  • 3 to 5 year lifespan before replacement.
  • Slower charging than lithium.

Best For

Budget-conscious buyers. Carts that get moderate use.

Lithium

AC Drive

The top of the line. Longer range, zero maintenance.

Pros

  • 10+ year lifespan. Lasts the life of the cart.
  • Zero maintenance. No watering, no acid.
  • Much lighter (better range and handling).
  • Fast charging. 80% in under 2 hours.
  • Compatible charger included.

Cons

  • Higher up-front cost.

Best For

Daily drivers. High-use carts. Anyone who wants to set it and forget it.

Converting a lead-acid cart to lithium isn't just swapping batteries. The charger has to match. The onboard computer has to be reprogrammed. Old wiring has to be checked.

Battery Care That Saves Money

Simple habits that add years to your battery life, no matter which type you have.

Charge After Every Use

Don’t let batteries sit partially drained. Plug in at the end of every use, every time.

Water FLA Monthly

Flooded lead-acid needs distilled water checks monthly during active season. Never tap water.

Winterize Properly

Store fully charged. Disconnect when possible. Or better, let us handle it with winter storage.

Clean the Terminals

Corrosion kills connections. Clean terminals twice a year with a wire brush.

Match Your Charger

The wrong charger will destroy a battery bank. If you convert to lithium, your charger must match.

Check Cables Annually

Loose or frayed cables waste power and can create hot spots. Easy fix, big payoff.

Battery FAQs

Depends on the cart and the battery pack. Full conversions typically run $3,500 to $6,500. That sounds like a lot until you realize lithium lasts 10+ years and lead-acid needs replacement every 3 to 5 years. Often cheaper over the long haul.
